Pliezhausen, 27 June 2023. DATAGROUP relies on innovative technologies to address applicants: From now on the IT service provider will use a chatbot on its career website providing information on why DATAGROUP is the right employer. The AskIT chatbot has been developed by AI experts of DATAGROUP and is based on ChatGPT, which means it acts like a human contact. The program will be available around the clock, seven days a week, to assist applicants, and it can answer questions about applications and working at DATAGROUP.
“The bot is in no way intended to replace the personal contact between us and our applicants. We rather see it as another low threshold contact channel for job seekers interested in learning more about our company”, explains Dr. Sabine Laukemann, Chief Human Resources Officer, Organization and Strategy.
The company has drawn on diverse and innovative ways for years to retain the interest of applicants and to eventually recruit them. Alongside the classical way of recruiting through job advertisements, which continues to be open for everyone, the IT service provider has developed a browser-based puzzle game, amongst others. A person who solves the seven tricky levels will be invited to a personal interview.
“We think differently, we work differently, and we find better solutions – this is a motto DATAGROUP has been living by for years. The chatbot has been developed by our colleagues and is a pilot and testing ground for us in human resources. We view it as a test and would be delighted if many applicants give it a trial”, says Dr. Sabine Laukemann.

More than 50,000 employees were surveyed in the comprehensive study by the business magazine Stern in cooperation with the market research institute Statista. The survey was conducted online and independently of employers and included numerous questions about the employee’s own company and others in the industry. However, the decisive factor for the ranking was whether employees would recommend their own employer. This was the case for DATAGROUP, which is ranked 8th among the top 35 employers in the IT and telecommunications industry.
IT is one of the industries that is particularly affected by the shortage of skilled workers. As a growing IT service provider with about 3,500 employees, DATAGROUP competes with employers from numerous industries. “Our employees are the heart of our company. We want to be more than an employer and, as a professional life partner, create an environment that offers everyone development opportunities and security in all phases of their lives. The ranking shows that we are on the right track in this respect,” explains Dr. Sabine Laukemann, Representative Director Human Resources. Across all industries, DATAGROUP even reaches 140th place out of a total of 650 among the listed companies.
“With eighth place among the top 35 in the IT industry, we were able to improve significantly compared to the previous year,” says Dr. Sabine Laukemann. “A recommendation to friends and acquaintances is the greatest compliment you can pay an employer. We are pleased that we perform so well across all industries and that our employees feel comfortable with us.”

Pliezhausen, 30 November 2021 – IT specialists are sought-after experts. In cooperation with Statista, the online portal Golem.de has determined which employers offer IT experts the best environment. DATAGROUP achieved 20th place among the top 50 in the cross-industry ranking and is the second best employer for IT professionals among the IT companies in the ranking.
Golem.de and Statista asked over 9,000 IT employees from 2,000 companies in all sectors about their experiences. The result is a list of the top 50 employers for IT professionals. With 20th place and an overall score of 7.67, DATAGROUP is one of the top employers and even ranks second among companies in the IT industry.
“IT is an integral part of any industry. As an IT service provider, we are not only competing with other companies in our sector, but also across Germany for skilled workers,” explains Dr Sabine Laukemann, Executive Vice President Human Resources. “We are all the more pleased that we scored so highly in the study. We are especially looking for people who are enthusiastic about IT and live it with the same passion as we do. That’s why we also approach IT experts differently, for example via our application game or in casual night outs, where we invite applicants to get to know us in a pub – informally and without application documents.”
As an IT service provider, DATAGROUP covers the entire spectrum of corporate IT. IT professionals of all specialisations will find the right area of responsibility at the company and can work with customers from a wide variety of industries. In addition to the classic application route, DATAGROUP also offers applicants the opportunity to win a job interview by cracking the seven puzzles on enter.datagroup.de or to get to know the potential new colleagues in a Night Out.

Around 140,000 people in Germany are dependent on sign language interpreters. But interpreters are not always available. Marius Martin and Michael Darmstadt, graduates of the dual degree program in business informatics at Mainz University of Applied Sciences, wanted to find out whether it was possible to create a sign recognition system suitable for everyday use. The goal was that no extra hardware should be necessary for its use and that the system should allow fluent communication between deaf and hearing people with the help of technical support. Marius and Michael therefore researched a sign recognition system using a simple webcam and neural network. This was a challenge because sign language is complex and, like other languages, differs from country to country and region to region.
The practical orientation and the application of cutting-edge technologies convinced the University Council of the Mainz University of Applied Sciences, which awarded the work a prize. The prototype forms a good basis for further work in the field, which in the future could lead to an interpreter in your pocket that enables easy communication.
From DATAGROUP, Marius received special hardware with which neural networks can be trained, because not every standard computer has the necessary computing power. After graduation, he continues to work at DATAGROUP and is currently employed in the Media division as a consultant and software developer. “The dual study program at DATAGROUP gave me the opportunity to combine theory with practice,” explains Marius. “That’s exactly how we approached our final thesis. It’s nice that I was supported in this at DATAGROUP and still am today when I want to develop further and familiarize myself with new areas.”
Pliezhausen, 03.02.2021. In the study Germany’s Best Employers 2021, for which magazine stern and market research institute Statista surveyed more than 47,500 employees throughout Germany, DATAGROUP ranked 6th among the best employers in the IT and telecommunications industry. Stern published the results of the study in its issue of January 21, 2021.
The renowned market research institute Statista used anonymous and therefore employer-independent online access panels to survey employees about both their own employer and other employers in the industry. Decisive for the ranking was both the willingness to recommend one’s own employer and the recommendation of the company by other employees in the industry. A total of more than 1.7 million assessments were evaluated.
The survey, which took place in June and July 2020, also asked employees about employer image and growth, interactions and supervisor behavior, advancement and prospects, pay, conditions and equipment, sustainability, and stress and balance. The survey also reflects the difficult time of the Corona pandemic and how employers responded and impacted employees in response.
“As an IT service provider, we are only as good as our employees,” explains Dr. Sabine Laukemann, General Director HR at DATAGROUP. “And especially in such a highly competitive market for skilled workers, it is crucial that we as an employer offer our employees the right environment. We are very pleased to have scored so well in the study and it confirms that we are professional life partners for our employees and not just employers.”

Pliezhausen, April 22, 2020: The Java Academy in Mainz has been certified as an IHK training course since the end of 2019. In March, the first graduates took the exam in front of the IHK’s head of further education – completely digital due to the current corona situation. The Java Akademie also focuses on individual support and curricula adapted to the skills of the participants, whether digitally or in person.
The Java Academy is a joint offer with partner Triona in Mainz, where IT-savvy career changers and computer scientists are trained as Java specialists within a few months. The training has a strong focus on practical experience, is paid and after graduation, the participants are guaranteed a permanent position with IT service provider DATAGROUP or Triona.
The quality of the training is now additionally underlined by the IHK certification. Since the end of 2019, the Java Academy is one of the IHK’s training courses and is one of the most comprehensive and longest courses in this category. Graduates of the academy will receive a final certificate as “Java Enterprise Developer IHK”.
“From the very beginning, the focus of our academy was on practice-oriented training that emphasizes the strengths and abilities of the individual,” says Holger Klatt, Managing Director Triona.
The first graduates with IHK degrees were also the first to complete their final presentation digitally. Even though this was initially due to the Corona Pandemic, the Academy plans to further expand its digital aspects in the future. “We train digital experts digitally”, explains Helge Viehof, Managing Director of DATAGROUP in Mainz. “There is an enormous demand for IT experts and by expanding our digital training program we can reach and train more people, even beyond the Mainz area”.
Already before the outbreak there were plans to build a digital version of the Java Academy, with the same focus on individual support. These plans were accelerated by the crisis. “It is not enough to just film lectures and make them available online. A good education comprises much more than that, and we maintain this quality standard,” says Helge Viehof. The participants regularly exchange information digitally with each other and also individually with the coaches. Another new feature is the possibility for third-party companies to train their own employees via the Java Academy, thus enabling them to train digital junior staff within their own ranks. This is increasingly crucial for many companies, especially in view of the current situation.
Seit dem Start der Akademie absolvierten bereits 50 Teilnehmer die Java Akademie, drei von ihnen nun als IHK Java Enterprise Entwickler.
Since the start of the Academy, 50 participants have already graduated from the Java Academy, three of them now as IHK Java Enterprise developers.

There are many things that characterize a good place to work: exciting tasks, a good team and leadership culture. However, it can all be broken down into one central question: Would you recommend your employer – or not?
This question was at the heart of a study conducted by the Statista market research institute in cooperation with the German magazine Stern. Over 45,000 employees were surveyed and asked to rank their employers. In order to be considered for the ranking in the first place, a company had to employ at least 500 people, of whom at least 100 had to rate the company as part of the study. The result is a ranking of the 500 best employers in Germany, presented in the current issue of Stern magazine.
DATAGROUP performed very well, ranking 19th among the top 35 in the IT and telecommunications category. With over 2,500 employees across Germany, the company provides a full IT outsourcing portfolio that covers the entire range of corporate IT, from SAP to cloud solutions to technologies such as Robotic Process Automation. The ranking sends a clear signal in the highly competitive market for IT specialists.
“Our employees are the basis for our success. We work hard to be not just an employer, but a vocational life partner who accompanies them through all stages of their life, offering them opportunities for further development every step of the way”, says Dr Sabine Laukemann, General Director HR. “We are pleased that we did so well in this ranking and were able to assert ourselves in a study that included many large and internationally known companies.”

It is not always easy to pursue an education alongside a fulltime job. Marcus Schäfer, service manager at DATAGROUP, knows it very well, because he has studied alongside his day time job for years.

Marcus has worked for DATAGROUP for years. He has completed his apprenticeship as IT specialist here. Following positions in technical fields and in project management, he changed to service management. So continuous development is nothing new to him.
“I consider it important to further educate myself on a regular basis. Especially today, and especially in IT, so many things are changing so fast that it is good to leave the traditional path in terms of training and focus on regular continuing training instead, also on the job”, explains Marcus.
For years, Marcus has studied business administration by correspondence course alongside his full-time job. He got up earlier, learned, and drove to work. His studies were paid by DATAGROUP, as the company supports an employee’s efforts to further educate themselves.
“Back then, it certainly was exhausting but it paid off. You gain insights you do not necessarily gain on the job, but which you can put into use afterwards”, explains Marcus, who acquired his business administration degree in 2015.
This flexibility is important in his daily work, as he is the primary contact for his customers. He makes sure that these customers receive the services they ordered and have a partner who supports them in their further development. To this end, he must also look into the customers’ business processes, understand these processes and have an overview of new technologies to advise them as best as possible.
With the constant arrival of new customers from different industries, who have individual requirements, Marcus benefits from his studies and his willingness for further development. “I am glad I could do what I wanted and that my employer will support me when I want to continue my education”, says Marcus.

Are you a computer scientist and want to become a Java specialist? Are you interested in joining IT industry as a newcomer? Or do you know someone to whom this applies? Then the Java academy by DATAGROUP and Triona is just right for you.
At our Java Academy in Mainz, we will train you within a few months to become a Java expert with a job guaranteed.
The Academy is open to people with all kinds of backgrounds. We are looking for computer scientists who have no background in Java or those who want to refresh knowledge they acquired years ago. The academy is also open to newcomers, who so far had little to do with IT in their career. The only prerequisites are an affinity for IT and the willingless to burrow into the subject of Java.
“As a newcomer in software development and IT consulting, I was well prepared by the Java Academy for the tasks of a developer. I especially liked the fact that I was not only confronted with the programming language, but also with the daily tasks of a software developer. ” says Sandro Kowollik, a graduate chemist who successfully graduated from the Java Academy in 2018.
Quality and individuality are at the forefront of the Java Academy. The training takes place in small groups, but each participant gets an individual training plan that is tailored to their own experience and knowledge. That is why the duration of the academy varies – from a few weeks to a year, with an average of three months.
The academy’s trainers come from the field, work at DATAGROUP or Triona and bring a wealth of practical experience to the training. In addition to the pure programming language, participants also learn communicative skills that they can use in their later work. Because there, they are not only pure developers, but also IT consultants who are in close contact with our customers.
The costs of the academy are borne by us. Not only that, we also pay you a salary while training at the academy. After graduation, graduates will find a secure permanent position with DATAGROUP, one of Germany’s leading IT service providers.
