Since the introduction of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) at the latest, fixed rules have applied to the handling of personal data. Data that is no longer used must be deleted in a timely manner. But when thousands of data records are involved, this is not always easy. This is precisely where Information Lifecycle Management from SAP, which Daimler Insurance Services GmbH implemented with the help of DATAGROUP, provides support.
GDPR compliance thanks to rule-based information lifecycle management
Information has a lifecycle: at some point it becomes obsolete and must either be archived or deleted. Particular attention is paid to all data relating to the General Data Protection Regulation, as this requires special care.
With the help of DATAGROUP, the customer has introduced the SAP-based Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) solution to keep its own data up to date at all times, to comply with deletion deadlines in an automated and thus legally compliant manner and to support the company's GDPR compliance.
The project began with a comprehensive analysis of the existing database. The data was cleansed and the requirements were defined. On this basis, the SAP ILM system was configured and a set of rules was set up that includes different retention periods and automatically deletes data after these periods have expired.
The support of this system ensures that the company's database is not only always up to date, but also that GDPR compliance is automatic.
